5 Reasons You Might Be Sucking E-Juice Into Your Mouth While Vaping

There are a bunch of mistakes that many people make when they first start vaping. Some new vapers accidentally take dry hits and burn their throats, while others forget to charge their batteries and end up not being able to vape when they want to. These mistakes are easily correctable, and you can avoid making them in the future once you realize what you’re doing wrong.

There’s another mistake that has become very common amongst new vapers, though, and it’s not always as correctable as the ones listed above since it can be hard to pinpoint the source of the problem. Many new vapers will start vaping and then think, “Why is so much of my e-juice ending up in my mouth?!”

You, of course, want e-juice to end up coming up through your e-cigarette and into your mouth. But you want it to be in the form of a vapor and not in the form of a liquid. When you suck in a mouth full of liquid, it can come as quite a surprise and ruin your entire vaping experience for the remainder of the day.

So how can you fix this problem? Well, the truth is that there’s not just one simple fix for this specific vaping struggle that all vapers are forced to deal with from time to time. There are a number of things that can cause you to suck e-juice into your mouth in a liquid form. The key is finding what’s causing it and then stopping it from happening again in the future.

Here are five reasons you might be sucking e-juice into your mouth while vaping and some helpful tips to fix the problems so that you don’t keep making the same mistake over and over…

Reason #1: You’re overfilling your tank.

When you fill up the tank in your e-cigarette for the first time, you might be tempted to put as much e-juice as humanly possible into it. After all, if you do that, you won’t have to fill it up again for a long time, right?

You can experience all sorts of problems if you do this. You can cause your tank to leak. You can also flood your e-cigarette. And you can send e-juice shooting up your e-cigarette when you vape directly into your mouth.

All of these things can cause problems for you, so you want to make sure you don’t overdo it when you fill up your tank. All e-cigarettes are different and there are a number of tanks that you will run into when you vape, so there’s no hard and fast rule for filling up a tank.

But in general, add enough e-juice to your tank to allow yourself to vape without going overboard and causing e-juice to spill out everywhere. By taking this approach, you may have to fill up a little bit more often, but you will save yourself from having to clean up a mess later.

Reason #2: You’re attempting to inhale vapor too quickly.

You want your vapor to hit your lips as quickly as possible when you vape. So you fill up your tank with e-juice, reassemble your e-cigarette, and then start taking a big, long drag right away. And then…bleck! E-juice shoots into your mouth and you cringe.

More often than not, you will suck e-juice into your mouth while vaping when you attempt to suck too hard or start vaping too soon after filling up your tank. It’s best to let your e-juice settle once you put it into your tank.

Then, once you have done that, you should begin by turning your e-cigarette on and taking short drags to get everything warmed up. Is it hard to be patient sometimes when you’re in the mood to vape or in a rush? Of course. But taking your time when you vape will ensure that your e-juice has time to turn into vapor.

Reason #3: You’re holding your e-cigarette at the wrong angle.

Okay, so this one is super obvious. But you might be surprised by how many people end up sending e-juice into their mouths simply by holding their e-cigarettes at the wrong angle.

If you attempt to vape while you’re laying down or you try vaping with your e-cigarette at an angle pointing downwards in the direction of your mouth, you may send e-juice into your mouth.

You shouldn’t be shocked by this. But you should rethink the ways you’re vaping and keep your hand steady at all times when you have your e-cigarette in it.

Reason #4: Your e-cigarette is leaking.

There are a variety of things that can cause your e-cigarette to leak. You may have missing or damaged O-rings inside of it. Or you may have the tank tightened entirely too much. You may even have low quality e-juices that are the source of your leak.

Whatever the case, a leaky e-cig can turn into a big problem. It can cause damage to the e-cigarette itself, and it can make vaping unpleasant for you since you’ll spend most of your time worrying about the e-juice that is leaking everywhere as opposed to the vapor you’re creating.

It can also send e-juice squirting into your mouth if you aren’t careful. Fixing a leaky e-cigarette right away is a good idea as it can prevent further issues down the line.

Reason #5: You’re using the wrong kind of e-juice.

In the reason above, we mentioned that low quality e-juices can sometimes cause you to suck e-juice into your mouth. E-juices that have high levels of PG, or propylene glycol, can do the same thing. They tend to be much thinner than e-juices with high levels of VG, or vegetable glycerin, which can cause them to move through e-cigarettes with less resistance.

If you are constantly sucking e-juice into your mouth and finding it to be problematic, you might want to try an e-juice with more VG. It could solve your problem.

These are some common mistakes new vapers make, but believe it or not, there are even more things that can cause you to suck e-juice into your mouth when vaping!

    I had same problem all the time I switch to a 70/30 mix and haven’t had a problem since…was vaping a 50/50before

I have a question. What causes spitting of hot juice hitting your mouth. Getting vape, but also getting spitting . Whats the remedy?

    • Robert says:

Sometimes when you fill the tank, accidently pouring it down the “chimney ” or usually the center can be the cause of this

  3. ELIZABETH WATKINS says:

I think there could be different reasons. When it happens to me I’m using a warmer coil. Some people like hotter hitting coils. They will also burn my lips. If I stick with an 0.5 now I’m pretty safe. But I’m sure that’s all different for different people.

  4. Kat says:

I’m super confused by all these terms and it’s very difficult to fix the problem when you barely even know what a coil is😂

Omg this is they exact problem I’m having. I have looked everywhere for a solution. Did you by any chance come across a fix for this?

        • mhd says:

          I had same problem before
1- learn how to use new coil … etc
2- before you vape turn it on and blow into it gently you can repeat many times to make sure that now it give alot of smoke .
3- start taking a small slow sips if its still drpping repeat number 2

          this worked for me 100%
make sure to clean it well before

I had that problem sometimes when I didn’t have my coil tightened correctly. That usually meant I didn’t have it screwed in tight enough. Some vapes can be VERY picky when it comes to putting the coil in just right.

  6. TJ says:

Im not sure it has anything to do with PG or VG levels because I have a 12 monkeys orangz 80% VG and hitting it is mostly liquid in my mouth and gross as fk. I have an e-splash blue berry cotton 60VG and its not producing any liquid in my mouth at all.. This is with a pen stick aspire pockex.. The 12 monkey has a nice flavor and smell but the liquid in my mouth thing sucks monkey balls..

  7. Amy says:

I know what a coil is, a tank, and a mod, but when the lady at the vape store sold me a pack of coils, they weren’t like the one I have now. She was very sweet and sold me what I asked for, but she started talking about what this article I just read talked about… The VG she told me but I forgot. If I tell y’all the brand name of the tank and coil and mod could y’all give me some extra pointers? The guy said I had it up to high and that was why I was going thru coils so fast. I’m really confused. Thanks

    • Nick Cameron says:

Im really at a loss as to your confusion. Isnt it worth researching and learning how to use such a great tool that may save your life. In the kingdom of the new dumb not all is plug and play or rip and burn.

    • Johnny says:

Do you still have the old coil ? As far as having it turned up to high , the new coil will have the minimum and maximum wattage settings wrote on it

  8. James says:

I got a 220 watt Ailen mod ,new coils primed the coil for 15 minuets I tried it and it spit a shit Tom of e juice in my mounts took it of cleaned the moth pice drained all the juice put it back on and filled it less then half full hot or again it seemed to work fine just wondering of it will happen when I’m less excepting it lol any suggestions any will help…

  9. Tracy says:

I’m pretty sure why my Mi-one is spitting vape juice into my mouth… when first got it a few hours ago I didn’t fill it properly (wish I went online instead of reading their stupid directions lol). Anyway, emptied it all, blew out tubes and let dry (2 times I’ve done this). Tried again still crap in my mouth which I find nauseating!! Any thought on how.to fix my screwup??

  10. Bluez says:

Sometimes a coil is the problem .. in my case I changed the standard coil that came in within the GNOME and bingo all were fine. No more juice spitting in my mouth. I strongly believe that it was the coil o-ring that was not sealing properly.

  11. Tamas says:

A very little “pre-heat” has solved the problem for me (0.5 sec with 50w), i’m using Gnome tank WM01 coil on a Ravage230
