Why You Should Stop Smoking—Even If You Only Smoke 1 Cigarette Per Day

Smoking is bad for you. Hopefully, we’re not the first ones telling you this, but really, we can’t say it enough: Smoking. Is. Bad. For. You. And if you can’t see that, then you need to look harder, because smoking will end up taking years off your life if you let it.

Studies have been done over the last few decades that have shown just how bad smoking actually is for you. Despite those studies, people continue to smoke, and while smoking rates have gone down pretty significantly over the last decade or so and now sit at less than 20 percent of the population in the U.S., we shouldn’t accept that as a society. The smoking rate should be 0 percent, based solely on how bad smoking is for you.

A new study might just help reduce the smoking rate even more, because it’s a scary study that shows just how harmful smoking might really be. The study, which was conducted by the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics of the National Institute of Health and the Office of Science, Center for Tobacco Products in Maryland, revealed a “substantially higher risk of premature mortality” in those who smoke. More specifically, it showed that smoking just one—just one!—cigarette per day could kill you prematurely.

Of course, if you smoke more than one cigarette per day, it could increase your chances of dying earlier even more. And we should point out that there’s no exact science to figuring out how cigarettes affect peoples’ health. Some people lose decades off their life by smoking in moderation, while others don’t despite smoking a lot. But this study shows that you don’t have to be a heavy smoker to feel the impact of smoking. So quitting should be your only option.

Here is how a study like this one could affect the vaping community and why we all need to keep studies like this in mind moving forward.

Less Smokers = More Vapers?

Vaping has become more popular in recent years, and it’s no secret that this is due, at least in part, to the reduction in the smoking rate. There is no definitive evidence that exists yet that says that vaping is better for people than smoking, but many smokers have turned to vaping in an effort to quit smoking and that has led to an increase in the vaping rate in the country.

This could turn out to be a very good thing for the country. As we just mentioned, smoking even just one cigarette every day could end up doing a lot of harm to your body over the long run. Unfortunately, it’s still unclear what the long-term health effects of vaping are, but studies are being done in an effort to try and discover whether or not vaping is actually better for you than smoking. If it is, you will likely see the number of vapers increase even more in the coming years and decades.

We are truly at a crossroads right now when it comes to vaping. All signs point to smoking being phased out in the future (even cigarette manufacturers seem to see the writing on the wall!) and as people become more and more educated about both the dangers of smoking and the potential benefits of vaping, the future of e-cigarettes is going to come into focus.

More Vapers = More Research Into Vaping?

For years now, the vaping community has clamored for more research to be done into vaping. The FDA has made it impossible for vape shops to advertise the potential benefits of vaping, so we can’t say things like, “Vaping is better for you than smoking” or “Vaping could help you quit cigarettes once and for all,” like we used to be able to do. But that could all change at some point.

As more people start vaping, more research will be done on it, and that will be beneficial for everyone! You see what a difference it has made with smokers, as once upon a time, people who smoked had absolutely no idea what they were putting into their bodies when they inhaled a cigarette. Even today, people are still learning about smoking.

That’s not to say that researchers will find dangers associated with vaping. But it is to say that there could be benefits of vaping that we aren’t even aware of right now. It could very well be the best smoking cessation device on the market at the moment, but we just can’t say that yet because the proper amount of research into it hasn’t been done yet.

That will all change soon as the increase in the number of vapers in the country will force schools and organizations to do more testing than ever before. More testing will yield more definitive results and more opportunities for the vaping industry to put real hard facts and numbers to good use.

More Research Into Vaping = Better Understanding of E-Cigarettes?

If you follow the vaping industry at all, then you probably know that there is a lot of misinformation surrounding e-cigarettes right now. There are so many myths out there that we don’t blame people for being confused and wondering what is true and what isn’t.

Once further research is done on vaping in the future, we will all have a much better grasp on it and be able to provide the necessary education to those who are against the use of e-cigarettes. The mainstream media has made vaping seem dangerous and has often clumped it together with smoking, and that has done a lot of damage to vaping’s reputation. It’s time for us to take it back and set the record straight.

As we said at the top, smoking is bad for you. There is absolutely no denying that, and the report that we cited is just further evidence of it. It’s impossible to justify smoking or to argue that it could have benefits to it.

But there is still plenty of hope for vaping, and the future is very bright for the industry. As long as we all continue to push it forward, it shouldn’t be long before the rest of the country and world realizes why we are so excited about the possibilities involved with vaping.
